Eating well can help you keep healthy. This article explores why a healthy breakfast can keep you healthy and fit.
Every day there are thousands of women in the UK and across the world who are looking for that easy diet fix, the one that promises to allow them to achieve their dream shape with minimal effort and little, to no exercise.
Some people might argue that this preoccupation with weight is something that is a reflection of our modern society and something that has become somewhat of a plague for the modern woman.
The belief that it is possible to do little or no exercise and consume whatever takes your fancy whilst still maintaining your svelte size 8 figures is rife and as most girls know is a complete fallacy.
As much as it grieves me to say it, the only way to achieve the figure you desire is to eat sensibly and really consume fewer or as many calories as you use. Exercise is not vital to maintaining your figure but is key in keeping your body toned and keeping fit.
A Beneficial Diet
A healthy breakfast is generally the best way to start your day and preventing snacking and the sugar highs and lows that are every dieter’s worst nightmare. A healthy breakfast not only ensures that you do not have an eleven o’ clock slump which has you reaching for the biscuits and also means that you can be effective with whatever you are doing that day.
Although I am most certainly partial to the traditional British fry up, (who isn’t?) I also try and steer clear of the fry up every morning of the week; my days are generally spent sitting at a computer and although I try and remain active I am painfully aware that eating a fry up every morning would almost certainly lead to me piling on the pounds.
During the week I try and stick with a slow release relatively healthy breakfast such as porridge or granola as I try and stay clear of the dread mid-morning energy slump. I absolutely love a sausage sandwich as much as the next person, so I allow myself one treat morning a week where I have one as I also believe life is way too short to deny yourself scrumptious food.
Benefits of Granola
I love having granola for breakfast as it contains nuts and seeds which provide vital minerals and vitamins that a lot of people including myself forget to incorporate into their daily diets. Granola is also full of oats which is a slow release food which releases its energy slowly and effectively thus ensuring that you are full.
Granola is a relatively flexible breakfast option as you can either have it with milk or pouring yoghurt which is also a great way of getting your calcium not to mention a great way of adding more flavour to the breakfast treat.
I then follow my porridge or granola with a relatively large lunch which is anything from sushi from my local Japanese takeaway or a baked potato with tuna and beans. Although the baked potato is obviously a high carbohydrate option, it does keep me full enough so I have no need to snack and I often do not need to have supper when I get back from work. Obviously I am not advocating that everyone misses meals, everyone has to find out what eating regime suits them but I thrive on a large lunch and then maybe some fruit to snack on during the afternoon.
Indulge
I would like to take this opportunity however, to clarify that I am not a saint and am guilty of having a few too many glasses of wine on the weekend or indulging in mars bar cake a bit too frequently. My mantra is generally “everything in moderation” as I would definitely say I am a food lover who lives to eat and not just eats to live.
Although it isn’t always possible to eat and drink sensibly I believe that generally having a healthy diet allows one to have splurges, where you can indulge in your favourite foods without the repercussions having too much effect on your weight and health. Eating should be fun and an enjoyable experience and I would always advocate that food is there to be enjoyed and savoured and people should not be afraid of it. A healthy breakfast and eating filling nutritious foods allows one to lead a happier and hopefully, more energetic lifestyle that will benefit you and allow you to lead a healthier lifestyle.
